Details are still thin, but soon page administrators will be able to communicate with people who like a page, via a private message button. The new Facebook feature is being tested in Asia so far.
From the report, it appears the consumer must initiate the conversation (we think this is a good thing to prevent abuse/spamming) in order for the private, two-way messaging to exist.
Businesses that have taken the leap into social media know they are obligated to respond and interact with fans in a timely manner. This feature will make it more so.
For the brands not ready to dive into management of private messaging from fans, you’re in luck (if you want to call it that). There is supposedly a feature to turn off the private message button.
