Oh my. Oh my. What made the former Governator decide to fess up on 60 Minutes? Arnold Schwarzenegger must not have a PR person anymore, because any PR person in their right mind does not let their clients go on 60 Minutes no matter how hard they beg. Seriously. Does anyone remember those gruesome elevator or parking lot shots with Mike Wallace in hot pursuit running after some frightened CEO who thought his or her best camera angle was running away from a TV camera? Gotcha journalism at its best.
But I am guessing that just like Bill Clinton, “The Oak” will be back on everyone’s radar as a good old boy despite his sins. It’s really hard to be banished from politics these days, especially if you are an actor or a former President.
“Just say no” applies to more than drugs.

You are so right on Susan. I actually turned on 60 Minutes and could not believe my eyes. What was he thinking? Didn’t watch it because I figured 1) who cares and 2) he is plugging his book. Like he needs the money. Does he need money? Maybe a Playgirl centerfold or an infomercial is next.
When I was head of public affairs for a major research institute some years back, the institution turned down a profile on 60 Minutes. I have long regretted that decision. 60 Minutes does hatchet jobs on people who have misbehaved, but they also do adoring pieces on “good guys”. If you have nothing to hide…or if you need to explain yourself…60 Minutes is an unsurpassed PR venue.

@William – The glowing pieces are hard to predict. If you must do an interview, you better be sure your client is squeaky clean and there are no skeletons in the closet. Some clients may forget to tell you about their arrest at age 23 for a DUI. 60 Minutes will find it.
