TGPR Partner Susan Tellem: A Mother’s Devotion to Saving Tortoises

TGPR Partner Susan Tellem, mother of four from Malibu is the co-founder of American Tortoise Rescue, a non-profit dedicated to the preservation and rehabilitation of turtles and tortoises. The American Mother’s Blog was kind enough to feature Susan in a recent article that can be found here:

On May 23, we will celebrate #WorldTurtleDay, which she launched with rescue co-founder Marshall Thompson. She always jokes she picked her birthday as the day so she wouldn’t forget when World Turtle Day was, lol.

In its 25th year, ATR — — has rescued over 3,000 tortoises while placing a serious dent in the illegal sale and treatment of turtles in back alleys and black markets across the country. At any given time, her facility houses 125 tortoises, many of whom are placed there by law enforcement.

The rescue is also selling new merchandise — the page just went live on Bonfire and all proceeds from sales will go directly to the rescue! Each purchase helps feed a turtle or tortoise for at least a month.
