Cradle Rock is Here

When we first spoke with Steve from Brash Music, we knew something good was brewing with what would become our newest client. This week marks the launch of our campaign to introduce “Cradle Rock” to the music industry; national, regional and local media, as well as “mom” bloggers from all over the country. Check it out:

What is Cradle Rock (http://www.cradlerockstore.com)? It’s a new series of children’s lullaby albums based on famous, iconic artists and albums in the country, rock and pop genres. The first three albums being released October 26th include Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” (creatively known as Thrillaby); also the greatest hits from Johnny Cash and chart topping singles from Kenny Chesney. So if your little rascal(s) are having trouble falling into dreamland, then pop on the albums featuring all sorts of “put your kids to sleep” sounds from soothing instruments such as the vibraphone, glockenspiel and mellotron.

Don’t know what a glockenspiel is? That’s ok…a kids version looks something like this:

Brash and partners at Tree Top Records are already developing new albums to add to the series including U2’s “The Joshua Sleep Tree,” Black Eyed Peas’ “Sleep-pea Hits” as well as lullaby albums inspired by Nickelback, Carrie Underwood and The Eagles to name a few.

The “Cradle Rock” albums are being distributed by The Warner Music Group, and you can pre-order at http://www.cradlerockstore.com. The albums will be available just in time for the Holidays through all digital distribution services like iTunes for $9.99, and at music retail outlets across the United States for $11.98.

CDs fit great in Christmas stockings BTW…hint hint

Win Pass to American Idol Coach’s “Art of the Audition”

We love contests AND free stuff! Our friends at LA Music Academy are giving away passes to a marvelous 3-day vocal workshop with American Idol’s vocal coach Dorian Holley (see how to win below). The singer, producer, writer and Los Angeles Music Academy’s newest staff member just might have the biggest music industry resume in Los Angeles (most recently the vocal director for Michael Jackson’s This Is It tour). He’s toured with Queen Latifah, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Lionel Richie, Don Henley and Linda Ronstadt to name a few and has coached and sang with a parade of stars, from Chris Brown to Usher.

Dorian and Los Angeles Music Academy College of Music are hosting a three day workshop February 5-7, 2010, called “Art of the Audition.” Open to the public — here’s what you can expect during the three day event:

Day 1 – February 5th (evening):
You’ll get an inside look at Dorian’s career and how he got to where he is today. You’ll also bring sheet music and do an audition of a prepared piece with a band of professionals provided by the LA Music Academy. Dorian will give feedback about how to improve your audition, what to study, and the philosophy/psychology of an audition.

Day 2 – February 6th (all day):
More auditions (if necessary) will start the day followed by how to write charts or where to get them done, and how to make sure your charts are easy to follow for the band. You’ll then participate in learning a group song with the band.

Day 3 – February 7th (all day)
You’ll rehearse the group song and then break into separate workstations with combos and/or solo musicians. Guest instructors will assist you with your audition piece in these intimate sessions. The best and most prepared students (as selected by the instructors) will then perform their audition piece at a concert and be judged by a noteworthy panel of artists. All students will then sing the group song together, and then the Dorian Holley band will perform to close out the weekend.

For your chance to win a pass ($495 value) simply follow the school on Twitter, and tweet why you think you should win (don’t forget to include @LAmusicacademy in your tweet)! It’s that easy. The school is selecting winners at random based on creativity, passion and potential. Enter as many times as you wish, just keep tweeting!

American Idol / Michael Jackson Vocal Coach Joins LA Music Academy

Dorian Holley

Holley Joins LA Music Academy

Meet Dorian Holley. The singer, producer, writer and Los Angeles Music Academy’s newest staff member just might have the biggest music industry resume in Los Angeles. Most recently the vocal director for Michael Jackson’s This Is It tour and currently the vocal coach for American Idol, he’s been a backup singer for Jackson for two decades, but his credits are vast. He’s toured with Queen Latifah, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Lionel Richie, Don Henley and Linda Ronstadt to name a few and has coached and sang with a parade of stars, from Chris Brown to Usher.

But his most notable contribution to recent musical history has been on Idol, where he serves as a vocal coach and music director. Any time a contestant goes from “pretty good” to “exceptional” over the course of the show, they can send the thank you note to Holley.

“We are very excited Dorian is joining our staff and eager for him to share his knowledge and experience with our diverse student base,” says Tom Aylesbury, President of LA Music Academy. Aylesbury adds, “Dorian is a respected figure in the music and film industries. He is not only prominently featured on hundreds of albums but in many films and television programs as well.” Aylesbury is referring to Holley’s “endless” resume, which includes, for example, his work on Die Hard, Pretty Woman, American Gangster and South Park the Movie, as well as Saturday Night Live, Good Morning America, Oprah, Dancing With The Stars, VH1’s Unplugged.

“With his experience, Dorian will prepare our students for the professional situations that they will encounter during their time at the school and after graduating,” says Aylesbury. Immersed in real life situations spanning a variety of contemporary genres, LA Music Academy students are required to play virtually every day in band workshops, featuring L.A.’s top professional musicians.

Although Dorian’s curriculum won’t be incorporated until next year, he and the school will host a three day workshop January 29-31, 2010, called “Art of the Audition” ($995). Open to the public, the seminar is for vocalists and will include discussions and audition situations with Dorian. Participating singers will receive critiques and pointers from panels of guest instructors and a panel of musicians (TBD), ultimately preparing participants for professional audition situations. The workshop will conclude with a performance by the Dorian Holley Band and special guests.
