In Defense of Animals – Star Studded Benefit Concert for the Animals

InDefenseAnimalsAbout: In Defense of Animals is an international animal protection organization dedicated to ending the exploitation and abuse of animals. IDA’s efforts include educational events, cruelty investigations, grassroots activism and hands-on rescue. IDA asked Paula Abdul to host a star-studded Benefit Concert for the Animals at Paramount Studios in Hollywood for animals affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Assignment: Broadcast, print and online media were pitched to do pre-event press and cover the event as well as red carpet arrivals. A real challenge emerged in that Abdul, the key interview subject, had minimal availability due to American Idol being in production and her arrival time on the red carpet was also thrown into limbo thanks to a last-minute taping schedule that coincided with the event start time.
Key Accomplishments: Stars lending their support included Ed Asner, Antonio Banderas, Ed Begley, Jr., James Cromwell, Melanie Griffith, Emmylou Harris, Tippi Hedren, Kevin Nealon, Willie Nelson, Joaquin Phoenix and Ken Wahl. Press coverage included: Access Hollywood, People, People.com, Us Weekly, ET/Insider, Life & Style Weekly, VH-1, BuzzLA, NBC’s Today in LA, The Daily News, Extra and major dailies across America, including The New Orleans Times Picayune ran shots by Getty Images and Wire Image of Abdul on the red carpet with a dog rescued from Hurricane Katrina.
